Tallink acquires three new Superfast ferries
22/03/2006 12:57

AS Tallink Grupp has contracted through some of its subsidiaries to buy from Attica Holdings S.A, three Ro-Pax vessels SUPERFAST VII, SUPERFAST VIII, and SUPERFAST IX for a total cash consideration of Euro 310 million.

Pending legal and regulatory procedures the transaction will close in April 2006, after which AS Tallink Grupp will announce additionalinformation about the transaction.

The acquired new vessels will start to operate between Estonia-Finland and Estonia-Germany. The Estonia-Finland route allows us to meet the growing cargo demand. The Germany route creates for Tallink new opportunities for growth development and an opportunity to enter the central European market. The German route offers a great link for Estonian tourists and cargo transport and also for German and other Central European countries an opportunity to visit Estonia as an attractive tourist destination.

The vessels are all built in 2001 and 2002 and are over 200m in length. All are ice-class vessels and can take over 700 passengers and 2 km. of cars and cargo. The vessels have a speed of more than 30 knots. All vessels are practically brand new and can cover the distance between Estonia and Germany in under 24 hours.
