The Estonian business daily Aripaev thinks that with his proposed national support program for the shipping sector Economy Minister Edgar Savisaar wants to ease the risks of his Tallink friends Ain Hanschmidt and Enn Pant.
It is obvious that the Centre Party stands for the interests of their
potential financiers. Savisaar claims that national subsidies are necessary in
order to support the competitiveness of shipping companies, but he was not able
to name any examples except Tallink to support his arguments.
The shipping sector itself confutes Savisaar’s arguments – no one besides the
leaders and owners of Tallink have threatened to make ships sail under foreign
flags.
