The Freeport of Riga has not managed to rent out its ferry Baltic Kristina. This is because the possible renter demands the reconstruction of the ship first, which would cost about EUR 1 million.
Karlis Leiskalns, director of the Freeport of Riga Authority‘s PR department,
says that the ship was not used for a long period and this has considerably
lowered its value. The potential renter is now not the South Korean company Four
Seasons, as this company stopped the talks when it became clear it would not get
the ship by March. Leiskalns admits that the prospects are bad, but says that
the port is not yet considering selling the ship for scrap metal.
